ultra high HR using H2 sensor and RC3 GPS, even at rest
My HR monitor has become unstable and tells mes that I have a HR of between 170-220 bpm both when running and at rest.
I manually counted my resting pulse to be 65 while the H2 said it was 176-180.

I have just changed the H2 batteries and the RC3 is fully charged.
Last time I did a max pulse check it ended at about 178 bpm.

Any ideas? I am close to chucking the H2, even though it is only 2-3 years old.

Which strap do you have? The WearLink strap (meshy contacts) or the Soft Strap (rubbery contacts)?

Is the strap the same age as the H2? They do wear out and it sounds like it could be the culprit. The WearLink Strap requires a bit more care than the Soft Strap and are prone to causing more problems as they age and get build-ups on the contacts. Try changing it and see how you go.

Straps
Hi Michael

I have both straps, and they both give the same weird reading.
The Wearlink is ancient, probably more than 10 years old, while I got the Softstrap with my watch.

They get washed regularly with my running gear, in a wash bag, and get suitably wetted prior to use.

I have an idea that the transmitter has a bug, but can't be sure.

I only ever rinse my Soft Strap in the shower. No real need to do anything more than that. The WearLink strap required a little more care.

The only way to tell what's causing the problem is by elimination. If a new strap doesn't fix it, then look at the H2.

I never had any issues with my WearLink transmitter in the roughly 4 years I used my RCX5, but it's a different design to the H2.
