Elevation in RCX5
Now that we are going to get elevation data in PPT, I hope that we are going to get the same data in the screen of the RCX5 in real time, like Speed, HR, Distance...

That way we don't feel less than Garmin users with a product that is supposed to be the top of the line of Polar products.

Whether they are able to access the altitude data from the GPS I don't know, it should be possible. But there is no way to apply upgrades to the Polar watches, so unfortunately we miss out on Altitude on our wrist.

The staggering thing to me is that there is no altitude in PPT.com This is available in free websites like Endomondo and MapMyRun, using open source GIS data.

It really shows a company that is falling behind in the software sphere. They have the best hardware, but with phones getting lighter, better GPS, improved bluetooth connectivity, soon the expensive polar watch will have all the same functionality on a free (or cheap download) with a few open standard measurement instruments.

Polar need to think about their business model because it will be smashed very soon. And judging by their ambivalent responses to their (loyal?) customers, they are not doing themselves many favours.

no

elavation will be calculated on web form gps. it will be not calculated by watch.

to have live data watches needs to have barometer. thats the reason why the garmins are ugly, bigger, heavier, poor battery live, expensive than.

i like rcx5 like they are nice and slim with great battery

You can upload the GPX file to Strava (or other similar sites) and that will calculate the altitude for you. Better still get the HRM and GPX file and use TCX converter and upload the TCX file. That way you will have all the altitude and HR data. (and cadence).

On the subject of Polar losing customers through their lack of development of their software I could not agree more. It is frustrating to watch and they do not want to go the way of Nokia who failed to sort out their software and have become an unsucessful Microsoft puppet.

It would be fantastc if there was full integration between Polarpersonal Trainer and Protrainer 5. Syncronisation in bothe directions would be superb.

Also there are too many small bugs in both the above products that requirte attention. The frequency and integrity of releases is poor.

I have been a polar customer since the 90s and it is frustrating to see the dominance they held within the cycling community with the release of the S710 and how that has since been lost to Garmin.

Come on Polatr listen to your customers, we are more than willing to help!

Not true. RS800CX as a barometric altimeter and is about the same size of the RCX5. In fact, most Garmins do not have a barometric altimeter. The reason they are big and ugly and have rechargeable batteries is because of the built in GPS.

By the way, I was just passing by as I have stopped being a loyal Polar customer. Got tired of customer deafness.
